Anderson Hills United Methodist Church is the location for the next Lay Servant Ministries course offerings. They will take place on Friday, March 2 from 6:30-9pm (dinner served at 6:00) and Saturday, March 3 from 8:30am-4:30pm (breakfast served at 8:00). The following classes will be offered:
Lay Servant Ministries (Basic Course) Instructor: Leslie Hall, CLS
"God has called you to a life of service as a disciple and disciple of Jesus Christ ... Ministries of the lay service is the first step that many lay and lay people take towards the beginning of their journey of Faith, in their effort to seek a more intimate relationship with the Lord." The Lay Service Ministries Basic Course is designed to be an introductory training experience for the new leadership of the church, while representing a renewal experience for leaders who have long served in the United Methodist Church. This course explores:
• Personal spiritual gifts
• The server leadership
• The role or role of each leader in developing future leaders
• The importance of constant spiritual practices
• The leading ministries of leadership, care and communication
• And much more.
Leading Worship (Advanced Core Course) Instructor: Jayne Lash, CLM and Mary Shumard, CLM
This course focuses on the ministry of laity who either regularly or occasionally lead a group or congregation in worship. Perhaps they lead music, lead prayer, read scripture, prepare the worship space, or give a message. The purpose of worship will be studied along with its Biblical roots and basic patterns and principles. This will enable participants to plan, prepare, and lead worship for a variety of settings. Participants will put their learning to use by planning and leading a group worship service. This course is open to all laity and also qualifies as an Advanced Course for meeting certification/recertification requirements as a Certified Lay Servant. It is one of the required courses that are part of the Lay Speaker course of study.
God's Mission... Our Journey (Advanced Course) Instructor: Sue Guttag, CLM
This course will provide participants with a better understanding of a holistic approach to partcipation in God's mission to the world and equip lay servants for more effective missional engagement in their communties and beyond. It is open to all laity.
