Bishop invites all to Pan-Methodist Advent service

Dear friends in Jesus Christ:

In a few weeks we will turn the page in the Christian calendar and begin a new year. The Christian New Year begins with Advent. The first Sunday in Advent this year is December 2. For a couple of years, the bishops of the Pan-Methodist denominations in Ohio have dreamed of launching some opportunities to make visible the shared heritage and hopes of our churches. (Find out more information on how Pan-Methodist denominations are working together here.) Our first attempt is to come together for worship across Ohio at five sites around the state. The services will be held simultaneously, with each of the five bishops preaching in a church different from his/her denomination. So I am inviting you, as you are able, to identify a service near you and join in on Sunday, December 2, at 4:00 pm. Each location will use a common order of service. Music and worship leadership will come from the local area. Locations are as follows (or click here for more information):

  • Metropolitan CME Church, Cincinnati
  • Wesley Temple AME Zion Church, Akron
  • Church of the Savior United Methodist, Cleveland Heights
  • Concord United Methodist Church, Englewood
  • Mount Vernon Avenue AME Church, Columbus

Advent is a busy time, I know. But we wanted to launch when the opportunity for symbolism was high. I hope this will be the first of many opportunities our churches have to express and embody unity, and in so doing, bear witness to a world hungry for the same. But let's begin by worshipping our God who became manifest in the flesh as a new Christian Year begins. See you soon.

Yours in Christ,

+Bishop Gregory V. Palmer
